Princesses & ParasitesSeries in Progress
This series explores our fascination with the shiny, the glittery and the gilded. Through these sculptures, I find beauty in the grotesque and comedy in the pretense of perfection of nature. The "Princesses" are in part a poke at Brancusi's Princess X and his supposed quest for the essence of the female form. What follies befall us when we strive to perfect nature? What are the results of our vanity and hubris? Our dependence on the immediate joys of surface and superficial comes at the cost of the natural world. Our impact on the flora and fauna surrounding us is revealed through habitat loss, blight, pestilence and extinction. The parasitic relationships seen in nature are exacerbated by our presence. Simultaneously we partake in parasitic relationships as both host and parasite; feeding off the environments we invade and also being bled dry by the Big Tech ticks feeding off our consumer profiles. |
